We received a thank you

Keith from Lyons court has sent us a wonderful thank you card. He wanted to thank everyone for all the effort that went into the hamper he won. Keith attended a recent event and was surprised at the friendliness he received from everyone within the church.

He isn’t very well at the moment and so please pray for him.

A Remembrance day prayer from Rev Linda Bishop

We believe God made this world,
God loves this world, God lives in this world.
We believe God holds it and cradles it in loving hands:
holding its pain,
caring for every memory of every person in conflict.

We believe God loves each human being,
on every side of every struggle,
who has given of themselves,
even to death,
for their friends and family and country.

We believe violence breaks Gods heart;
bullets tear through Gods realm;
and war opposes Gods love.
But we believe love lives longer than hatred;
hope burns away at despair;
God calls to us from the violence,
and we can work in love for a better world.
So be it.
(seasons of the spirit)

Prayer
Lord on this Remembrance Day we pray for peace in our world, we long for an end to all war, conflict and suffering. We feel helpless in these days and our hearts break in sadness and sorrow at our broken world.

We pray for all those who grieve the loss of loved ones lost in war and conflict, on this day of public remembering give them strength to remember with thanksgiving and hope for a better world.

Holy Spirit sweep the lands, turn hatred to love, sorrow to dancing and despair to hope. Help us all to live together with our difference and celebrate diversity. Help us to be peacemakers in our own homes, our own communities.

As we wear our poppies today, symbols of hope in our brokenness, we reflect on the Christian symbol of the cross, where our saviour gave his life for our freedom. To live in freedom within ourselves and the world is a longing of every heart. Lord give us the courage to live out the sacrifice of Christ and the countless lives lost in battle, may peace begin with us.
Amen

Churches Together in England statement at the death of Her Majesty the Queen

Churches Together in England statement at the death of Her Majesty the Queen

 It is with deep sadness that Churches Together in England receives the news of the death of HM Queen Elizabeth II at home in Balmoral. Churches Together in England unites 52 Church denominations in England including Anglican, Catholic, Free Church, Pentecostal, Charismatic and Orthodox traditions. Our Member Churches unite in offering deepest condolences and prayers for HRH the Prince of Wales and the whole Royal Family at this time.

HM Queen Elizabeth has reigned happy and glorious for over 70 years. As monarch she has often spoken about her Christian faith and how it has strengthened her and been a guide and source of hope during her entire reign. During her reign she has invited fifteen Prime Ministers to form governments in the United Kingdom. She has seen the highs and the lows of the nation’s history over these past decades. She has been a steadfast presence in the midst of the changing sands of time. Churches Together in England’s Member Churches are grateful for her reign and the value she has placed on the role of all of the Churches in the fabric of our nation and the nations of the Commonwealth.

We join with the people of our nation in mourning her loss and pray for those involved in making preparations for the funeral. We pray comfort and strength for the whole nation at this time as we join together to mourn the passing of Her Majesty the Queen and reflect on her life well lived.

HM Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022; A Prayer

Lord on this day of shock and mourning for the nation, at the loss of Queen Elizabeth, give us the courage to look forward in faith, to be thankful for her past counsel, and to hold on to the assurance that she is in your loving embrace.
We pray for our country, for a time of national grieving, and thanksgiving for her leadership, her strength and her loyalty.
We hold her family before you, as they mourn, may they be assured of her eternal peace and may they be blessed by the prayers and love of the nation.
Lord in your mercy
Hear our prayer
Amen
Rev Linda Bishop

For your consideration and prayers

The circuit is asking if its possible for Sunday service in all churches start at 10.30am.
Due to the shortage in the number of ministers some churches from October may struggle to hold a service. The idea is that if all churches can start their service at the same time then some churches will be able to livestream their minister lead service to other churches on a rotational basis.

Linda asks that we think about this question and please discuss it further with her and provide your thoughts and feedback.

JOURNEY INTO PRAYER

JOURNEY INTO PRAYER

Prayer forms part of our lives, as Christians, but sometimes we struggle with dryness, boredom or lack of enthusiasm. We need a booster, some ideas to encourage and support us but often we draw blanks as we try to find how to make prayer meaningful in our daily lives. As a way of responding to many calls for help we are planning to run a course exploring the many rich methods of prayer in our Christian Tradition. The course will comprise of 12 fortnightly, sessions, beginning in September 2022 and ending after Easter 2023. They will be on Tuesdays from 10 – 3pm. We plan the day to include some teaching on the various traditions, time to explore the method and some sharing on how it was for each one.

We know prayer is about our relationship with the God who loves us unconditionally. It’s not about ‘getting it right’, being perfect at it, spending hours at it. It is about finding what helps me, now, how to deepen this relationship that I already have and maybe help others too. We are all on the journey of deepening our relationship with the God of Love, and from time to time we all need a helping hand to guide us on the way.

The course will be held at the Cenacle Convent, Tithebarn Grove, Lance Lane, L15 6TW. The leaders will be Sr Winnie Morley, Revd David Frudd and Revd Karen Beck, they are all Ignation trained, spiritual directors and experienced in running courses.

For more information or to apply join the course please contact Sr Winnie on 0151 722 2271 or email to [email protected] . The closing date for applications is August 1st 2022.
