Weekly Sunday worship services are back!

All services will continue to take place under current Covid rules and regulations.  Temperatures will be checked upon arrival, social distancing seating will be maintained and masks will need to be worn at all times. Issue with watching old recordings has been fixed

The issue with un-trusted certificates a few people have experienced when trying to watch our services via our website has now been fixed.

The issue was caused by the implementation of a new international standard within the internet. I am sorry it’s taken a few weeks to sort this out but it required developing a new way to do things and then manually updating over 400 links on our website.

Recording of our services temporarily unavailable

Access to “recordings of our services” via our website is temporarily unavailable today.

As usual, our church hall is in use as a voting station and with covid regulations requiring a one-way system we needed to open up more of the church then we normally do.  For safety, we have switched off the media store that stores our recordings until later this week.

Call to prayer opportunities: A Letter to yourself!

A Letter to yourself!

This might sound odd but can be very powerful.

Take a few minutes to write a letter to encourage yourself in your faith journey.

Think about who you are in Christ…

You might want to write a specific scripture or prayer; or write of God’s love for you; or that He has chosen you and adopted you into His family; or that He is with you in all things…

You could use a blank postcard or write in a journal, but date it and place it somewhere to be ‘found’ at a later date. If you have a stamp, why not pop it in the post addressed to yourself or ask someone else to send it to you in a few weeks time?

You may just find that when you read it at a later date, that God speaks to you afresh.

Call to prayer opportunities: Prayer Walking

Prayer Walking: What is it and how could I do it?

There’s nothing too scary about Prayer Walking.

It’s not about standing on pavement corners, hands together, eyes closed, feeling awkward and a spectacle! You can go alone or with someone else.

It’s about chatting to God, wherever you are, for everything around you. Prayers don’t need to be formal or long, and they can be mixed in to the general conversation – ‘what a lovely garden’ ‘Thank you Lord for the care and love put into tending this garden’.

There is nothing that is too small to pray about.

There is nothing that is too big to pray about!

Prayer walking can be done by walking around an area, or using Google maps or a paper map. It is literally being in conversation with God as you explore an area, either one familiar to you, or a new one.

As you set out, invite God to walk with you and open your eyes and ears to see / hear things that are on His heart. Praise and pray as you go. Thank God for the little things – a flower, bird song, a birthday or new birth banner in a window – and pray His blessing and light into each place.

As you ‘walk’, pray for the things around you –

Homes and the issues people are facing, businesses, schools, parks, doctors, dentists, churches, public transport, supermarkets, dangerous traffic junctions… the list is endless.

Is God speaking to you? Do you have a sense of Him as you walk? Do you find yourself praying for something you hadn’t thought of before? Have you noticed something you’ve not seen before? Are you aware of a need in the area? Do you find yourself suddenly thinking of someone who lives there? Any of these can be prompts from God, invitations to act. Possibilities of things that the church could get involved in…

You may find that your walk is interrupted by someone you know who wants to chat. You might be just who they need. You might be an answer to their prayer, so don’t see it as an intrusion, but as God placing you in the right place at the right time. Silently pray for the person, that God would steer the conversation and give you the best words to support them.

Prayer Walking is a deliberate action of inviting God to walk with you to explore the area with new sight, fresh perspective. A walk involving God. It may feel strange to begin with, but the more you do it the more natural it becomes. God is with us at all times and rejoices when we seek to walk with Him and invite Him to speak to us about our area.

Go (or sit) expecting prayer walking to have an impact. Expect results. After all, the living, loving God is walking with you!

An update on re-opening our Church Building

We are hoping to be able to re-open our Church Building on Sunday 18th April for a short 30 minute worship service following all the latest covid rules and restrictions. We will then continue to hold on-premise Sunday services every other Sunday thereafter.

The current Covid situation is very fluid and it’s difficult to make any plans at the moment. We therefore ask you to only pencil this date into your diary as we need to make further checks and preparations prior to the 18th. We will confirm this date shortly before the 18th April.

The Church building will be open on Easter Sunday, 4th April, from 10.45 until 11.45 for private prayer and reflection.

Rev Linda’s online Sunday services will continue on facebook at 10.45.

Mothering Sunday

Mothering Sunday this year could not be celebrated in church as usual, instead on behalf of the junior we decided to carry on the tradition of giving flowers with a small verse attached to ladies to show our appreciation of all that they do.

Going into Latchford village and passing out the flowers to ladies in the community was special, the thanks and smiles we received left me with such a warm glow that I hope we start a new tradition and do this each year.

An appeal from our District and Circuit for Malawi Covid Vaccines

An appeal from our District and Circuit

An appeal that is from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine

The appeal asks that we, who are so lucky to have our vaccinations free on the Health Service, donate the price of a vaccine (£25) to Malawi and other African countries who have no health service and no vaccines to date.

I am aware that the Government is supposed to be donating through Covax, but this is an individual response to say thanks for what we have. I am sure you are aware that PPE etc. has been in very short supply and the LSTM started this appeal off to supply PPE to Malawi etc, realising that this was the first step.

LSTM have a young graduate working in Zomba Hospital in Malawi. As Christians, Jesus ask for our commitment to the poor and needy and this appeal is one of those appeals that is to serve that need.

Please go to the website detailed above – it tells you all about the appeal and who it helps and how to donate.

Carol Singing and Angel Distribution

On Saturday 19 December 2020 members of Latchford Methodist Church gathered in the village to sing carols and distribute knitted angels. Cheerful voices were raised to celebrate the season of Advent and bring hope and joy to people suffering from the worries and restrictions of the covid pandemic. The use of the outdoor sound system carried the singing further and the response was wonderful with passing traffic tooting their horns, residents coming out of their homes and passers-by all stopping to listen and join in. At the same time 100 angels knitted by 3 church members were distributed around the village, left in shops and handed out to children and adults as a Christmas gift of love from the Church. It is planned to hold similar events regularly in future to bring worship outdoors into the community and share the hope found in Christ and God’s love for all people.

We would like to express our gratitude and thanks to the Cheshire Community Foundation for this award.

Latchford Methodist Church Response to the current “stay at home” lockdown

A statement was issued by the Chair of the Liverpool Methodist District, Rev Dr Sheryl Anderson, addressing the current covid pandemic. We encourage you to read the statement by clicking here.

Based upon the advice of our district, our desire to help reduce the increasing number of Covid related deaths and infections, and mindful of the huge stress our NHS system is struggling to locally manage we will not be holding any services from within our building. Instead we encourage everyone to stay at home and watch our services online.

Sunday service will be Live each Sunday at 11AM on facebook. You will need to pre-register if you haven’t already done so.

If you don’t have facebook, or wish to re-watch or download to your personal players, then a recording will be available after the service on our website.

We will review this decision in February.

Our building may be closed but our church will always remain open.

Advent Study with Rev David Easton on Zoom.

Rev David Easton is holding three Advent meetings on zoom which anyone from across the circuit is welcome to join. The studies will be based on a book by Revd  Stephen Dawes called “Who is this Jesus born of Mary?”

His book looks at Matthew chapters 1 and 2, Luke chapters 1 and 2, and John 1 vv 1-18.  It is not necessary to have a copy of the book to join the study course but I understand it is possible to get the book through Amazon or possibly ebay.

The dates and subjects are:

30th November @ 7.30pm – looking at Matthew’s account of the birth of Jesus
7th December @ 7.30pm – looking at Luke’s story of the birth of Jesus
14th December @ 7.30pm – looking at John’s explanation of the coming of Jesus

Anyone wishing to join us should email <…..> for the zoom joining details.

Please e-mail [email protected] for the contact name.

Trinity Safe Space – Help Needed

The circuit have been working with Trinity Safe Space during Covid but it has
been difficult giving the ESOL lessons and supporting the asylum
seekers. As lockdown and Covid are likely to be with us for some time
yet, we’ve been reviewing how we can support people without actually
meeting them face-to-face. We’ve identified several roles that we need
help with and I’m wondering if anybody in the Circuit has any spare time
to help with the following:

ESOL lessons – we’re using Zoom and What’s App. We have a qualified ESOL
tutor to help with any training needed

Befrienders  – loneliness and mental health is an issue with many of the
asylum seekers and we thought that if someone was prepared to telephone
them perhaps once each week or fortnight that would help. We are
currently looking at some ‘Listening’ training

Administration – as we often apply for funding, we’re looking for
someone who could collate paperwork. Also, we have been offered a
storage unit to keep clothing and food but need somebody to oversee it.

I’ve attached some role descriptions below but if anyone would like more information or an application form then please e-mail <…..>

Please email [email protected] for the contact details.

Many thanks

Text4Prayer – Volunteers wanted

Text4Prayer is an initiative that was a result of prayer walking around Padgate and God speaking very clearly about a way that the community beyond the church could connect with us to ask for prayer in whatever situation they face.

There is a dedicated mobile phone that is only for texts, not calls, and each message that is received gets a personal response from one of the trained T4P team.

There are not huge numbers of texts being received – sometimes none, other times a few in a week – and the phone can be passed on to another trained team member at any time to ensure that it doesn’t become a burden.

I am now looking to grow the team and will be putting on training on Tuesday 15th December at 10am  on zoom, for anyone who is interested in learning more and possibly becoming one of those who take charge of the phone.

If you are interested in this, and are confident in using a mobile phone, please contact me for further conversation and the zoom connection.

Church Building closed for until December 2nd

It is with sadness that yet again we have to suspend access to our church building to comply with Governmental instructions that take affect on November 5th.

This national lock down will legally prevent places of worship from being used except for:

  • Funerals
  • To broadcast acts of worship
  • Individual prayer
  • Formal childcare or where part of a school
  • Essential voluntary and public services, such as blood donation or food banks
  • Other exempted activities such as some support groups

As a result, the following planned onsite Sunday Worship services have been cancelled.

Sunday 8th – Remembrance Sunday
Sunday 22nd  – Last Sunday before Advent

We pray our planned service for Sunday 6th December, 2nd Sunday in Advent, can still be held onsite. It is hoped we can still do some type of collection for Children’s toys or maybe money. We will publish further information when it becomes available.

Except for Butterflies nursery, no one will be permitted access to our church buildings.

Our Church isn’t a building made from bricks. Our church is made from our faith and love that we have for our God, our minister and for each other and so during this time we will continue to worship LIVE EVERY SUNDAY via Facebook: Warrington Methodist Worship

Anyone without facebook can watch Sundays recording of our worship service during the afternoon via our website.

If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to phone any of the stewards or post your question our facebook site or website below.

Video Live-streaming Grant Application success

We have been working on a proposal to obtain equipment for Live-streaming from within our Church. This will allow a sustainable solution for not only live-streaming and video recording our services, but will allow our clubs and the wider community to use these facilities for many years to come.

We have successfully applied for a grant from the circuit and have been awarded £7,500. We are applying for grants from external organisations to fund the remaining costs of this project.

Growth Plan: Church Architect

We have appointed the award winning Architects from Condy Lofthouse. This company is based locally in Liverpool and has a proven track record working with Churches as well as other types of buildings.

Covid has and will continue to delay the work on our growth plan but we will work hard to make progress. Part of this will include an introspective review of how lessons learnt from covid can be used to improve and alter our growth plans.

We will then work with Condy Lofthouse to develop a detailed feasibility study for review at a future Church Council meeting.

Christmas Angels knitting request

Christmas is coming, the geese are getting fat,
Please put an Angel in the collection hat.

OK, so Poetry isn’t my strong point; But could we please appeal for knitted Angles in time for Christmas.  Never knitted before? Why not give it a try and see how you get on?

These Christmas Angels have made a fantastic difference to peoples lives and, more now than ever, we need them even more.

We’d be grateful for as many as possible and the pattern is available on the Church website <click here>

We will figure out a way of collecting them in time for December.
Many thanks from the Latchford Mission Team.

An further update on our Church Building

A few people have noticed the “building closed” sign on our Church and Hall doors have been removed. Their removal wasn’t intentional but instead blew away in the recent gales.

New signs will be going up this weekend saying the following:

ALL ACTIVITIES SUSPENDED

After reviewing the latest regulations and guidance on places of worship, our demographics and the increasing possibility of a second wave we intend to keep the building closed and continue with our online worship services and mid-week pod casts. It’s imperative that we don’t undo all the hard work and sacrifices made over the past few months as well as keeping everyone as safe as possible when we do finally open.

With the exception of Butterflies Nursery and authorised Church staff, no access is permitted to the church buildings.

We are constantly evaluating this situation and will reopen the building as soon as we can.

Worship services are being live-streamed on Facebook on Sunday’s at 11am. Please check our website for information on how to access this broadcast.

We pray that everyone remains safe and healthy and look forward to the day we can re-open our door.

With love and Blessings,
