Knitting angels for Christmas needed

As usual we will be distributing angels around Latchford just before Christmas and we would like to ask for your help in knitting them. In the hall you will find patterns on the table by the door into church and there is also a big bag of wool if you need some.  The angels will be needed by Sunday 3rd December so there is time to attach labels onto them and a bag will be put out for the finished angels.

Christmas brunch

December 2nd – Christmas brunch, following the success last year we will be again having a few stalls. Firm favourites are Gill’s chocolate stall (donations gratefully received) Rita’s cake stall and Kath’s £1.00 stall.

Are your lemon drizzle cakes really enticing, or Victoria sponge cakes mouthwatering? Whatever cakes are your favourite to bake please let us know if you would be willing to make some for the cake stall.

We need your help

We do amazing work in the community but then we tend to just move onto the next thing that needs our help.

To help us to apply for community grants to continue our work we need to document what we have done, preferably over the last 10 years.

Please get your thinking caps on and help us produce a list of all the community work and feedback we have had over the last 10 years.  This can be anything from visiting people, cutting the grass, litter picks, talking to people in the street, handing out free food and drink, food banks, Room at the Inn, knitting or making something.  Perhaps someone has just said thank you to us for doing something. Our list does go on and on…. but please note we need community based topics and not faith based.

If you can think of anything then please write it down and pin in to the board in our hall.. or let a steward know, or e-mail us.

If you have any questions then please don’t hesitate to ask either Wendy, Iain or Linda.

Easter Offering Envelopes available in the pews

About Easter Offering

Each year, the Methodist Church holds an Easter Offering dedication service. This tradition dates back to 1883, when women in Manchester collected £32 for missionary work overseas from ‘Christmas pennies’ at family gatherings on Christmas Day. In March 1884, the London Districts distributed Easter envelopes and collecting bags asking for a penny a head, and collected around £100. In 1900, Women’s Work raised £1,655 for the work of overseas missions.

In 2019, collections from Easter Offering services raised over £370,000, thanks to the generosity of Methodists.

All the money raised through the Easter Offering goes to the World Mission Fund of the Methodist Church in Great Britain for work overseas and within the UK including  student ministry training.

Mince Pies, Christmas Angels and Carol Singing thank you

We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who helped or attended what was a busy and well received Saturday Morning.

Under torturous underfoot icy conditions brave volunteers handed out 200 mince pies, generously donated by Latchford Co-Op.

Over 70 Christmas Angles, knitted by volunteers throughout this year, where shared around the village or left in strategic places for people to find and take home.

The morning was wrapped up by a good and enjoyable carol singing in the village Centre.

We received a thank you

Keith from Lyons court has sent us a wonderful thank you card. He wanted to thank everyone for all the effort that went into the hamper he won. Keith attended a recent event and was surprised at the friendliness he received from everyone within the church.

He isn’t very well at the moment and so please pray for him.
