Church Prayer – Trinity

Please pray for the groups who use Trinity and the outreach work done there. As we celebrate Christ’s birth, let us remember the families whose Christmas is made a happier tie because of the hampers they receive from trinity Kings Cross and give thanks to all the people who support the project. Remember also, the refugees, asylum seekers and trafficked people who are far away from home and fine some companionship at Trinity Safe Space. Amen.

Rev. Linda’s challenge to YOU

Today Linda asked “How do you show Gods love?” and gave us all a challenge.

The Challenge is to ask yourself these questions:

  • What are you going to do to this week to show God’s Love?
  • What will you do to recharge and to know God’s love?

Small acts of kindness can make a massive change to someones life. The little things we do often make the biggest difference.

It could be as small as giving a smile, or saying hello to someone in the street. Perhaps paying for someone to have a cup of tea or offer words of encouragement. Offer a helping hand, give flowers to a stranger, or offer to pray with someone.

This week, if you do something, no matter how small or insignificant you feel it is, Let Iain know and he will publish it on our website.

Either tell Iain, call him, e-mail latchfordmc@outlook.com or click “reply” below this notice on our website. Everything will be treated as anonymous, unless you your happy for your name to be shown. If you reply using facebook then your name will be public and so using the website is best.
Lets see how big a list we can collect.

Christmas Post Box

It’s time to start thinking about Christmas. The post box will be in Church the first 2 weeks in December, the cards ready for distribution on 15th December. Please make sure the full names are on the envelopes and for Church family only. In alphabetical order in an elastic band would be helpful. Thank you.

Advent Group

Last year at Advent there was a very positive reaction to the pictures that were hung up in the lounge following each Advent group meeting. This year’s group will be looking at art produced in 4 different areas of the world to help us prepare for the coming of Christ. We meet on Mondays, 1.30-2.45pm in the lounge. Everyone is welcome on all or any of the following dates: 25th November, 2nd, 9th, and 16th December.

Christmas Angels

A big thank you to everyone who is busy knitting angels for distribution around the village before Christmas. We’d be grateful for as many as possible and the pattern is available on the noticeboard in the hall, on the Church website <click here> and also on the Facebook page. Additionally, please put any finished angels into the bag on the stage by Sun 8 Dec at the latest, as labels need to be attached prior to distribution. Many thanks from the Mission Team.

Church Prayer – St Philip’s

Father God, we give thanks for your Spirit of Mission which allows us to step out in faith knowing that you are leading us. We pray for the work on our garden which allows us to be more visible in our community and gives us a space to invite the community in and to become involved in planting and caring for our environment. Give us the opportunity to speak and share our faith and to invite the community into our building and into worship. We pray for Transform North West who are using our school hall that they may reach out to the lost generations and help them to know your love for them. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Themed Preaching for November 2019

November’s overall theme is ‘Finding Gods love in the unusual’

3rd November – Revd Linda Bishop – Holy Communion  – “What is Gods love?”
10th November – Mrs Jane Otterson & Our Worship Leaders – Remembrance
17th November – Mrs Joyce Roe – “Missionary work”
24th November – Revd Linda Bishop – “How do you show Gods Love?”

Good News!

As we celebrated our 125th Church Birthday, reflected on the past and looked forward to the future we learnt that the “National Lottery Community Fund” has accepted our application for a grant.

The following week, as we commenced our first worship service in our 126th year, we received word that our application had been successful. We have been awarded a grant of £6,200 for an Architectural Feasibility Study.

This study is needed to draw up the changes we need to make to our property to allow us to fulfil our mission and worship goals.

This success is due to our funding adviser, Enid, and the hard work of all our own growth teams.

This is one large step along the path we need to follow and the timing of these events suggests our Lord is blessing our direction.

We also need to say thank you for the funding from The National Lottery Community Fund.

Handbag Auction this Friday in aid of our growth plan

The fundraising team are holding a handbag auction on Friday 1st November and are looking for handbags that people no longer use.  Please can you give them to Joyce or Margaret F. Donations of finger food would be gratefully welcomed. “Nibbles” such as crisps, sweets, nuts or fruit such as grapes. Anything that can be nibbled or picked up with one hand.

Church Prayer – St James

We pray today for members, visitors and friends of St. James and the surrounding community. We especially pray today for our circuit and visiting Ministers, local preachers and worship leaders as they help us all look to the future through the love and partnership of God. We especially pray at this time for our new church youth projects and for our larger community of young children as they take exams and prepare also for their future. Lord may your love and guidance be with us all at this time of renewal and change, in Jesus name. Amen

Church Prayer – Sankey Valley Methodist Circuit

In a time of transition and change we pray for the churches of the Sankey Valley Circuit and all those who hold offices in our churches. We see resources declining as ministers move away and no new ministers move in to replace them. Help us to see this situation not in the context of decline, bus as a challenge to reflect on what our churches do and whether we can operate more effectively by working together. We pray that the holy Spirit will show us how best to respond to the challenge of changing times and to see in this changing context, opportunities for mission and service. Remind us that God’s love for all creation never changes.

Celebrating our 125th Birthday by sharing Cake

On Sunday we shared our birthday celebrations and the love we have for God with the people of Latchford by distributing birthday cakes.

At 11am we gave, with our love, 190 cakes away in the Latchford village, followed by a further 90 cakes later in the day.

A special thanks to everyone who provided / baked the cakes, prepared them for sharing and to those who walked them around the village. We are truly blessed. xxx

Growth Plan update

As part of our growth plan, we have submitted what will be the first of several grant applications. This grant, if successful, will be used to engage an architect to produce a feasibility study followed by more detailed plans in order that estimated costs can be produced and a firm and fundable plan can be adopted.

125th Celebration photographs

During our 125th Celebrations we have taken photographs that we plan to upload onto our website and store for prosperity. If anyone has any objections to their photograph not appearing then please let Linda know.

For everyone who took any photographs over the weekend, please feel free to share your photographs with Iain, for adding to our records and website.

On Saturday 12th October the Church will be open from 11:00am to 4:00pm, with an exhibition of photography – past, present and future, flower displays and various kinds of music throughout the day.  There will be refreshments for people to come and share our celebrations with us.  We will need people to steward in the Church during these times.  We also need people to bake cakes or donate bought cakes both for the refreshments, but we would also like a further 250 small cakes to give out in the village and the houses near Church.  We will also need help in the kitchen throughout the day.   There is a sheet on the pulpit table for anyone who can help with any of these things to put your name down, what time you can steward or help in the kitchen and how long for.  If you need any more information, please see Jean.  Please can you help with our special weekend?

Going Deeper In October and November

The Going Deeper group is studying a course which explores the journey of faith in words and music. This includes hearing new worship music as well as more well-known items. There is no need to be “musical” – most of us currently meeting aren’t! – but it gives the opportunity to pay more attention to the words and music of hymns and songs than we usually have the time for in worship. We meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays in October (7th & 21st) and November (4th & 18th) in the lounge at 1.30-2.45pm. Everyone is welcome.

Church Prayer – Penketh

Father God we thank you for the seasons and especially the summer season. The days are longer and all of nature is showing us your gifts of flowers and trees and fruitfulness. We remember especially those people who live alone and feel isolated. Be with those who are unwell at this present time, help them Lord to feel loved. We ask these prayers in the name of your Son, Jesus. Amen. Minister: Rev Jenny MacGregor

Church Prayer – Padgate

We pray for Padgate as it works on its new strategy for growth. For the team in the church leading it. For the church’s ongoing mission and service among the local community. We pray that through all that happens, people at Padgate will come to experience you in new and more wonderful ways. We pray that you will continue to inspire people there to spread your love; to grow in faith; to bear witness to the living Christ; and to seek to worship you in new and inspiring ways.
